Staying Regulated on the Bus!
Hello Everyone,
Many of our preschoolers travel to and from school on the bus. Sometimes there are several students with autism on the same bus. Riding the bus involves multiple transitions, making it a situation that is primed for meltdowns. The transportation personnel who are tasked with handling these situations often have very little or no training regarding autism. When we go out to get our students off the bus or put them on, we always try to give the bus drivers pointers and demonstrate strategies. However, it can be difficult to adequately relay our thoughts, as we often have students melting down and need to concentrate on supporting them through the transition.
